Teletherapy is the delivery of occupational, speech and language and feeding therapy services via a live video conferencing platform.
Online speech-language therapy has been shown to be as effective as in-person therapy, but with more flexibility and convenience. By meeting online, parents can forgo the commute to therapy and enjoy more valuable time at home with their families. Teletherapy is an excellent option for clients who would like to receive quality therapy, but do not have access to in-person therapy due to time or location limitations.

During a teletherapy session, your child will participate in their therapy session in a very similar way to how they would participate in the clinic. However, instead of the therapist in the same room as the child, the parents will likely be directed by the therapist as to how best to support their child during each session.
Below are some helpful habits you can practice to ensure your child’s teletherapy session is seamless:
Try doing a ‘practice’ before you child’s first session to familiarize yourself with the video conferencing layout
Make sure your device is charged and plugged into a power source during your session
Make sure your device’s microphone and webcam are turned on
Headphones are not mandatory, but can be helpful at blocking out noises
Make sure your child has eaten and used the bathroom before they start their session
Even though you are at home, wait until after the session to give your child snacks and drinks
Have your device set up in a quiet part of your home
Ask other family members to use quiet voices
Decrease volume on nearby electronics while the session is in progress

Keep a backup device close in case you experience a technical failure
